Marathon racing is the most popular discipline in South African canoeing, and a vibrant calendar of events takes advantage of the many excellent paddling rivers and flat-water courses across the country. The Umkomaas marathon is arguably the roughest water raced in K1s and K2s anywhere in the world. South African paddling legend Hank McGregor momentarily retired from K1 racing in 2018, but was talked into returning for last year`s world championships in Shaoxing, China. He is 12-time ICF canoe marathon world champion so we hope to see him in Sandvika this summer! South Africa's most celebrated female sprint paddler is Bridgitte Hartley. Let`s be inspired by her slogan 'Always believe something wonderful is about to happen'.
